Hi all,

this silver Galerius campgate (19mm, 2.97g) is currently listed for sale but something about it seems very off to me. I can see some flow lines as if the coin has been struck but the surface seems to be soapy or at least struck with a very worn out die. I've had a look at acsearch and Helvetica's list but cannot find anything similar.

Does anyone else have an opinion on this one?

Thanks!

RIC VI only records this reverse being issued from Rome for Constantius I (RIC VI Rome 43). These would have been struck for all the members of the Tetrarchy though, so it is not surprising to find an unlisted one for Galerius.

As far as authenticity, I don't have much experience with silver issues, but from other examples I have looked at in the past, I don't see anything about this one that would immediately condemn it.

Thanks for the info, Victor. I decided to take the plunge and acquire it. Will try to update this thread when it arrives.
