Constantine I campgate from Ticinum
« on: July 12, 2016, 01:18:02 PM »
This unofficial issue from Ticinum is in pretty good style (the reverse looks much more like Arles), though it pairs the wrong obverse and reverse.   2.1gm

In the footnotes for 198 in RIC (pg 386) a coin just like this is mentioned "In L a hybrid VIRTVS- CAESS, camp gate, 4 turrets, no star, wide open doors, m.m. T crescent T, obv. CONSTANTINVS P F AVG (B5)"

Though it makes no sense to mention a coin which must be unofficial. More of the occasional confusion encountered from Bruun.

That is a really nice unofficial campgate! Wish it was in my collection.
