Decentius the almighty
« on: April 30, 2016, 11:56:36 AM »
The obverse legend of this coin is unusual as it says that Decentius is Fortissiumus (almighty)

I don't know what Decentius did to be "almighty" except be the brother of a powerful usurper, but it was apparently enough.

Decentius
A.D. 351
21x22mm   5.5gm
DN DECENTI-VS FORT CAES; bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust right; A behind bust.
VICTORIAE DD NN AVG ET CAES; two Victories holding wreath inscribed with VOT V MVLT X.
In ex. TRP
RIC VIII Trier 316

Here is a chi-rho Decentius with FORT legend.

22 mm. 5.71 grams.
RIC VIII possibly Trier 326 (but mintmark off the flan)
("FORT" is in the legend only at Trier and Aquileia.)

it's a nice example of the chi-rho despite the mintmark being off the flan
