Galerius GENIO from Trier...almost official looking
« on: January 25, 2016, 03:07:46 PM »
This one is really good in style and would pass for official if one did not look closely. There are a few stylistic issues and out right errors though. The first is the obverse legend, the legible part reads MAXIMIANVS NOB CAES. The bit at the front might be C VAL, but this issue is unrecorded with the long legend, though the previous issue did have the long legends noted. The reverse has a few more obvious issues, mainly the reverse legend is GENI...the O is missing. Also check out the end of the cornucopiae.

Galerius
A.D. 296-297
[C VAL] MAXIMIANVS NOB C; laureate head right.
GENI POP-VLI ROMANI; Genius standing left, modius on head, naked except for chlamys over left shoulder, holding patera and cornucopiae. Across fields A- Γ
