Hello Everybody
My name is James, from the UK and I'm a new LRB addict. Eventually I shall get round to posting lots of questions on the identification board but just wanted to jump in here and say Hi. I hope eventually I'll be able to learn my way round without making too many mistakes. One question, though, I'd like to ask and that is -how do most people here organise their coins? At the moment I only have about 50 coins so it's not too difficult, but a friend (a philatelist) said, get your system into place early! I have one album with plastic sheets with pockets; is that OK? It works for me at the moment. I don't have much space in my house for cabinets and so on.

I use albums with sheets also. I put my flips in the sheets, each holds 20. Each flip has a 2x2 insert with all the information typed on it. I have various albums (8 currently) that I have arranged somewhat by family (when possible), for instance I have one album for Constantine I (divided with tabs and arranged alphabetically by reverse type), another for the family of Constantine, one for the house of Valentinian, one for the house of Theodosius and another with Licinius and his son and assorted others. Third century and Tetrarchy have their own album as do commemoratives and unofficial coinage. The downside with the sheets is that they tend to sag after a few years, which could be remedied if you store the album flat.

Welcome! I use a combination of albums and trays. For my emperor collection I have an album for for my thematic collections (e.g. my campgates) I use trays. I then have electronic copies of all the written data for each tray. I find that for coins I handle a lot, trays are better whereas for coins that will not be handled that often, albums are better. In the end, both have the positives and negatives. For albums make sure that the plastic you use are PVC free otherwise it can damage the coins over time.

If you would like to show off your coins online, I would make the suggestion to start taking photos of the coins early on. I made the mistake of not doing that and now have too many to actually take photos of them all. I regret this and will some day have to find the energy to start taking photos...

Thanks a lot guys. I'll get a couple more albums and shift all the LRBs to them. Right now It's just a case of getting a few coins for each emperor and later finding what to specialise in. I've photos of most of them but one thing I've found out, - it's taking up all my time! Good thing it's winter coming on and I have an excuse to stay in the house.
