This very rare type was only struck for Theodosius II and examples are only known from three mints—Constantinople, Nicomedia and Cyzicus. The reverse legend GLOR(IA) ORVIS [for Orbis] TERRAR(VM) translates as “Glory of the Whole World.†This type may allude to the massing of troops for an expedition to take Italy back from the usurper Johannes.
