Won this last night, looks like a great-looking coin and scarce also. I might have overpaid for it, at cca. 67$ but I'm quite pleased with the purchase as it's the first 4th century coin in a while

MAXIMINUS II AE21mm 5.11g Follis (VF, patina, silvering)

AV: IMP C GAL VAL MAXIMINVS PF AVG, laureate head right.

REV: HERCVLI VICTORI, Hercules standing right, resting on club draped with lion skin; * over gamma in left field.

EXE: SMN, Nicomedia mint.

REF: RIC VI Nicomedia 75, rated C, cca. 312AD.

I don't think you overpaid at all, it is a nice example. Your obverse legend is, of course, P F AVG. RIC also rates this issue as common.

I am not a collector but I have to admit that Hercules is a theme that  could have tempted me. There are representations since Octave to Constantine, some really stunning. The one you got, Seth, is one of them and I agree with Victor that you don't have overpaid for it.

Yes, Victor you're right, I've corrected.
This is one of those instances when the RIC ratings are quite off, as this type would be rated at least scarce in respect to the frequency in which it appears to be available for purchase.

The reason why I was tempted to think that I overpaid was that the one listed here: http://www.lateromanbronzecoinforum.com/index.php?topic=531.msg1478#msg1478 was merely 30$, although in somewhat worse condition, but from an arguably scarcer mint.

I agree that it is subjective but IMO, difference of condition and style are important enough to double the price.
