Constantius I F ADVENT AVGG NN from Carthage
« on: April 15, 2015, 12:04:26 PM »
I just saw this rare type for sale, but it seems a bit pricey at $960.00. It is listed as a silver denomination in RIC, but this one looks bronze with some silvering.

Seller's description-

Constantius Chlorus - Argenteus
296-298, Chartago, RIC 14a
2,47g x 18mm

D/ CONSTAN - TIVS CAES; testa laureata.
R/ F ADVE - NT AVGG NN; T (esergo); l'Africa con uno stendardo e una zanna di elefante; in basso, un leone e un cranio di bue.

Hi to all .
A lot of time looking for a coin like this and throughout the internet I found only two. Just this topic led me in your Forum. Look at the quality of this here watching the price for which it sold and I wonder how much it would cost mine, because the one I found was better. Let me show it. Please make comments about my discovery. The coin weighs 3.05 grams silver

Congrats on a nice example of this rare type. RIC lists three examples, but others (including yours) have undoubtedly surfaced since the publication of RIC VI in 1967. As far as price, it is really tough to say, since so few are known. Your coin has the two most important things going for it- good condition and rarity...but a coin is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Thank you Victor for your answer. I asked for the price of the coin, because here in Bulgaria no one of buyers want to pay more than 70$ for this extremely rare coin!  Thank you again.

That is ridiculously low for that coin. For an idea of worth, I suggest comparing it to other argentii from the period, like the VIRTVS MILITVM types.

Thank you again. What can I say, all things and laws in our country are curious. Btw, the minimum payment for the month in Bulgaria is 170$ :) only for the electricity we must pay minimum 35$. What a country ha :)
