Constantine I SARMATIA from Sirmium
« on: December 01, 2021, 09:47:33 AM »

this is a common enough coin, but it needed a little brushing when I got it and I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. I was going to list it in my store, but now I am keeping it!

Constantine I
A.D. 324-325
18x20mm    3.1g
CONSTAN-TINVS AVG; laureate head right.
SARMATIA DEVICTA; Victory advancing r., holding trophy, palm branch, spurning captive std. on ground to right.
in ex. SIRM
RIC VII Sirmium 48

I took the first picture and wasn't pleased, so I rubbbed the obverse with my finger and it looked better. Then I got a denture brush (stiff nylon bristles) and gave it a vigorous brushing. What a difference...of course, that is why it was in a group lot, because it did not "present" well. My gain, their loss,  :D

Interesting! If only all ancients could be cleaned so easily!
