ALAMANNIA DEVICTA
« on: March 20, 2013, 04:43:48 PM »
Crispus, who was born in Gaul, was made commander of the armies in that region. He was victorious in military operations against the Franks and Alamanni in A.D. 318 and 320. Another victory in A.D. 323, which he shared with his brother Constantine II, would be celebrated by the ALAMANNIA DEVICTA coinage.

The Alamannia existed independently as a tribe until A.D. 496, when Clovis defeated them and they became part of the Frankish kingdom.

Aleman literally means "All men" and the word is still used, in French, Allemand means German in regards to the language and in Spanish Alemán means German.
