Constantine I VOT XX MVLT from Thessalonica/ Trier
« on: February 11, 2021, 02:29:21 PM »
this one recently sold as Thessalonica...seller's description--

"Constantine I Æ 14mm. Thessalonica, circa AD 318-319. IMP CONSTANTINVS AVG, laureate and cuirassed bust to right / VOT XX MVLT XXX in four lines within wreath. RIC VII 52. 1.20g, 14mm, 7h.

Good Very Fine. Extremely Rare, rated R5 in RIC and no other examples on CoinArchives.

Acquired from Fritz Rudolf Künker GmbH & Co. KG, March 2009;
Ex Dieter Alten Collection."

RIC is in error and even says in a footnote that attribution is uncertain. These coins are in the Zschuke book on Trier coinage and this is the plate coin for 14.23b
