Hi again,

I've been trying, without success, to find a reference for this coin. I'm not familiar with tetrarchic pre-reform coinage, though, so it's quite possible I am missing something completely obvious. The closest match I have found is RIC V:2, 216 (Ticinum). This specimen has a different obverse legend (including alfoldi).

IMPCCVALDIOCLETIANVSPFAVG Radiate and cuirassed bust right.
HERCVLICONSERVAT Hercules standing left, right arm on club, lion's skin on left arm, holding bow. SXXIT in exergue.
3, 28 g. Max  22,5 mm.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

RIC for 216 lists Voetter for the reference. In Voetter, there is a HERCVLI listed (#36 Tarraco,as they didn't realize yet the mint was actually Ticinum) with the obverse legend IMP C C VAL DIOCLETIANVS P F AVG and mintmark of SXXIT. Voetter, however, references Cohen 536, which must be a typo and instead be Cohen 136 which is RIC 212; which has the right obverse legend, but different reverse type- Hercules to right, leaning club on rock.

So, your coin is an unlisted obverse legend and RIC 216 is the closest, but it would be nice to see the coins Cohen, Voetter and RIC reference for verification.
