After the murder of Postumus, Marius was elected Emperor by the army in A.D. 269. Little is known about Marius (the Historia Augusta claims he was a blacksmith), except that he had a short reign of around three months. The praetorian prefect for Postumus, Victorinus, had him killed and became the next Emperor.
