Crispus campgate from Trier seen from the back
« on: September 22, 2016, 11:03:17 AM »
This campgate has a "seen from the back" bust, versus the normal draped and cuirassed. It's not that rare, merely rated scarce in RIC for this workshop, but it is a nice portrait of Crispus with an uncommon bust type.

Crispus
A.D. 324- 325
19mm    3.1gm
FL IVL CRISPVS NOB CAES; Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust seen from behind.
PROVIDEN-TIAE CAESS; camp gate with two turrets and star between them.
in ex. PTR
RIC VII Trier 450

And Crispus seems like a "young" Constantine I. Nice bust in deed !
Here is the rarest of this issue, the same bust for Constantine II and second officina. 18mm-3.5g. RIC.453

P.S. If some one know a picture of the only other specimen I know from the Nagytétény Hoard, I would be curious to compare dies.

I checked in "Il tesoro di Nagytétény" by Alföldi, but it did not show the coin.

Thank you for that check, Victor.
Each time I find a 453 on the web, it is finally a misreferenced 454.  ::)
