Constantine I Chi-Rho between standards from Arles
« on: September 12, 2016, 09:01:33 AM »
This is a nice example of this type with the Chi-Rho between the standards. It is harder to find than the single standard with a Chi-Rho.

Constantine I
A.D. 334
19mm    2.5gm
CONSTANTI-NVS MAX AVG; rosette-diadem, draped, cuirassed bust.
GLOR-IA EXERC-ITVS; Two soldiers helmeted, stg. facing one another, reversed spear in outer hands, inner hands on shields resting on the ground; between them two standards, Chi-Rho between the standards.
in ex. PCONST
RIC VII Arles 381

Hi Victor,

Yes, I bid around $325 for it because these are rare, especially this nice, but someone else got it.  I have three of these but two are only Fine, not as sweet as this one.

I'm sorry you missed it, as it is an exceptional example. I was also an underbidder. Hammer price- $339.51
